Two mirrored birds in flight fill the panel of a wooden serving tray: one deep aubergine with a crest and a paisley-patterned body, the other vermilion with striped wings and a long trailing tail. Fine leafy vines and red berries run across the mint-green ground, and a saw-tooth border of red and orange wraps the raised rim.
Why this work
A working tray turned into a Madhubani painting, in the Mithila folk tradition of Bihar where dense line and dotwork fill every inch of the surface. It sits alongside the painted kettle and dot-art vessels as ornament carried onto an object made to be used.
